I think 900 px wide is a good size to show off your super awesome photography skills. Basil agrees. I asked him. for vertical pictures I would size them at 450 px wide and then place them side by side. I'll test it out.

4 This is A Sample Post With a Cute Picture of Basil
This is a cute picture of Basil! It's kinda blurry - but it's still alright because well - Basil is cute. Don't you think so? Also I needed a sample picture to test out the size of your blog post area. I sized this picture at 900px wide.
